No. 6 Hurricanes Remain in Control of National Finals Spot

VALDOSTA, Ga. – The No. 6-ranked Georgia Southwestern State University men's golf team remains firmly in contention for a trip to the NCAA Division II National Championship after two rounds at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional at Valdosta Country Club.

Competing against one of the deepest and most nationally ranked fields in Division II golf, the Hurricanes followed Friday's 9-under opening round with a 4-under 276 on Saturday to sit third overall at 13-under par through 36 holes. 13 of the 20 participating schools are ranked inside of the top 20, including six programs currently ranked inside the national top 10.

Georgia Southwestern trails co-leaders No. 1 West Florida and No. 16 Nova Southeastern, who are tied at 15-under entering Sunday's final round. No. 2 Lee sits fourth at 12-under, just one shot behind the Hurricanes.

The top seven teams following Saturday's final round will advance to the 20-team NCAA Division II National Championship, scheduled for May 18-22 at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev.

Hurricanes in the Hunt

Sam Brown continued his outstanding postseason play, carding a 2-under 70 to move into a tie for fifth individually at 7-under for the tournament, five strokes behind the leader. Brown mixed four birdies into his round and played the back nine in 3-under par, highlighted by birdies on holes 11, 12, 14 and 15.

Jordan Jones climbed into a tie for 13th after another steady 70. Jones opened the day with a birdie, bogeyed his second hole and then rattled off eight consecutive pars before a birdie on the 14th and a final birdie on his 16th hole of the day which was hole No. 1.

Sacha Corlouer also posted a 2-under 70 and sits tied for 14th overall at 2-under. Corlouer rebounded from a bogey on hole No. 9 with a pair of birdies on the back nine to keep the Hurricanes near the top of the leaderboard.

Stefan Rojas enters the final round tied for 21st at 1-under after shooting 2-over 74 on Saturday. Rojas birdied holes 1, 4, 10 and 11 during his round.

Oscar Hammar rounded out the scoring with a 2-over 74 and is tied for 64th overall at 5-over for the tournament. Hammar matched Jones with a string of eight consecutive pars during his round Friday with a pair of birdies coming on the back nine.

GSW once again showed its depth throughout the lineup, with all five players contributing to another under-par team round against a field loaded with nationally ranked competition.

The Hurricanes will tee off Saturday at 9 a.m. in the final round looking to secure one of the seven qualifying spots for the national finals.
