AMERICUS, Ga. — Georgia Southwestern State University shortstop
Lani Dansby has been named the Peach Belt Conference Softball Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Monday, following a standout week at the plate for the Lady Hurricanes.
Dansby hit a blistering .533 across five games, recording multiple hits in three contests while driving in eight runs to lead Georgia Southwestern's offense.
The freshman from Harris County, Ga., made an immediate impact to open the week, tallying two doubles in the first game against Albany State, and closed it in emphatic fashion with a grand slam in the series finale win over Middle Georgia. Her ability to deliver in key moments was evident throughout the stretch, going 6-for-8 with runners in scoring position.
Dansby's production helped fuel the Lady Hurricanes to a 3-2 week, continuing her emergence as a reliable offensive presence in the lineup.
In conference action this season, Dansby ranks 26th in the Peach Belt Conference in batting average (.323) and 24th in slugging percentage (.492), continuing to build momentum in her freshman campaign.
Her selection marks the second consecutive week a Georgia Southwestern player has earned PBC Freshman of the Week honors, highlighting the impact of the Lady Hurricanes' young talent.
GSW returns to action on Tuesday with a trip to West Alabama before resuming PBC play Saturday at USC Beaufort.
