Lightning Halts Play as Augusta Defeats GSW, 6-0

AMERICUS, Ga. — The Georgia Southwestern State University women's tennis team dropped a 6-0 decision to Augusta University on Tuesday afternoon in Peach Belt Conference action at the Susan K. Smith Tennis Complex.

Augusta set the tone early, sweeping all three doubles courts to claim the opening point. The Jaguars carried that momentum into singles play, securing wins on five courts to clinch the team result.

At No. 2 singles, Mariana Sorrilha was locked in a competitive battle that had gone to a 10-point tiebreak before her match was halted due to lightning in the area. With the overall team outcome already decided, the match was left unfinished.

Luiza Rodrigues faced Augusta's top player at No. 1 singles, while Luana Borini, Mabry Bowron, Natalia Paiva and EmmaRae Smith rounded out the lineup for the Lady Hurricanes.

The loss drops Georgia Southwestern to 1-6 overall and 0-2 in Peach Belt Conference play, while Augusta improves to 6-6 and 1-2 in league action.
