Lady Hurricanes Face Ranked Test, Road Challenge in PBC Weekend

The Georgia Southwestern State University women's tennis team faced a pair of tough Peach Belt Conference matchups over the weekend, falling to No. 14 Columbus State on Friday before dropping a road contest at Georgia College & State University on Saturday.

Friday vs. No. 14 Columbus State

Georgia Southwestern hosted a nationally ranked opponent to open the weekend, as No. 14 Columbus State earned a 7-0 victory at the Susan K. Smith Tennis Complex.

The Cougars set the tone early by sweeping all three doubles courts to claim the opening point. Columbus State maintained that momentum into singles play, securing straight-set victories across the lineup.

Luiza Rodrigues led the Lady Hurricanes at No. 1 singles, while Mariana Sorrilha, Luana Borini, Mabry Bowron, Natalia Paiva and EmmaRae Smith rounded out the singles lineup. Rodrigues had the closest match of the afternoon, falling 6-1, 6-2.

Saturday at Georgia College

The Lady Hurricanes continued conference play on the road Saturday, falling 7-0 at Georgia College & State University.

The Bobcats mirrored Friday's script, sweeping doubles play before carrying control into singles, where they claimed all six courts in straight sets.

Rodrigues again competed at the top position for Georgia Southwestern, with Sorrilha, Borini, Bowron, Paiva and Smith filling out the remainder of the lineup. Sorrilha suffered a 6-4 loss in the opening set of her match and Borini took three games in the second set of her singles contest.
