GREENWOOD, S.C. — The Georgia Southwestern State University women's tennis team fell 7-0 to Lander University on Friday afternoon in Peach Belt Conference action at the Joe Cabri Tennis Center.
Lander controlled the match from the outset, sweeping all three doubles courts to secure the opening point. The Bearcats carried that momentum into singles play, earning straight-set victories across the lineup to complete the sweep.
Georgia Southwestern's closest push in doubles came at No. 2, where
Luiza Rodrigues and
Luana Borini battled before falling in a tight 7-5 decision.
In singles, Rodrigues competed at the top spot for the Lady Hurricanes, while
Mariana Sorrilha, Borini,
Mabry Bowron,
Natalia Paiva and
EmmaRae Smith filled out the remaining courts. Rodrigues, Borini and Paiva had their first sets go to 6-3 before suffering defeat.
Lander improved to 8-4 overall and 1-1 in Peach Belt Conference play with the win.
Georgia Southwestern drops to 1-7 on the season and 0-3 in conference action and will look to regroup as league play continues.
