AIKEN, S.C. — After opening the series with a win Friday night, Georgia Southwestern was unable to sustain the momentum Saturday, dropping both games of a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader to the University of South Carolina Aiken.
The Pacers claimed the series victory and have now won four of the last five meetings between the two programs.
Saturday's Top Performers
Game 1 – USC Aiken 9, Georgia Southwestern 0 (5 inn.)
USC Aiken struck early and built a sizable lead through the first two innings, putting GSW in a difficult position from the outset.
The Lady Hurricanes were limited offensively, managing just two hits in the contest. Baelee Garland accounted for one of those with a double, while Lani Dansby added the other hit.
GSW threatened in the fifth inning with a pair of hits but was unable to push a run across, as USC Aiken closed out the run-rule victory.
Game 2 – USC Aiken 3, Georgia Southwestern 0
The series finale proved to be a more tightly contested matchup, with Pyper McCard delivering a solid outing in the circle.
McCard worked 6.0 innings, allowing three runs—just two earned—while striking out four.
GSW scattered four hits in the game, including singles from Huelsman, Dansby, McDonald, and Hazard, but struggled to string together offensive momentum.
Despite putting runners on base late, the Lady Hurricanes were unable to break through, as USC Aiken completed the doubleheader sweep.
