AMERICUS, Ga. – Georgia Southwestern pitcher
Johnny Nutt has been named the Peach Belt Conference Baseball Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Monday, following a standout performance in the Hurricanes' series finale against USC Beaufort.
Nutt delivered seven strong innings in Sunday's 6-1 victory to secure the series sweep. The Fitzgerald, Ga., native retired the first seven batters he faced and set the side down in order three separate times, keeping the Sand Sharks off balance throughout the afternoon.
A Wilcox County High School graduate, the southpaw scattered just three hits, struck out three, and held USC Beaufort to a .130 batting average in the outing. His efficiency and command allowed the Hurricanes to control the pace early and maintain momentum late as they closed out the series.
Through the early portion of the season, Nutt ranks sixth in the Peach Belt Conference in opposing batting average (.208) and is tied for fourth in fewest hits allowed (10), continuing to establish himself as one of the league's top freshman arms.
Nutt becomes the eighth Hurricane to be named PBC Freshman of the Week and the first since 2024.
