AMERICUS, Ga. -- The Georgia Southwestern State University baseball team was named a recipient on Wednesday of the 2025-26 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award presented by Sports Attack. Teams from every level of college and high school baseball were honored with this year's award, which highlights programs coached by ABCA members that posted a cumulative team GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale during the 2025-26 academic year.
GSW earned the award for the seventh consecutive year.
The recognition follows a 2026 season in which the Hurricanes produced the Peach Belt Conference and ABCA Southeast Region Pitcher of the Year, the PBC Freshman of the Year and multiple All-America selections while continuing the program's commitment to academic success.
This year's award recipients include nearly 500 college programs and more than 320 high school programs.
Following the conclusion of the spring semester, coaches were invited to nominate their teams for the award before the July 17 deadline. To qualify, a program was required to meet the following criteria:
- Be a high school or college baseball program
- Have a head coach who is a current ABCA member
- Post a minimum cumulative team GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for the 2025-26 academic year
Founded in 1945, the American Baseball Coaches Association is the primary professional organization for baseball coaches. In addition to the Team Academic Excellence Award, the ABCA annually recognizes student-athletes and coaches through its All-America, All-Region, Coach of the Year and Hall of Fame honors.
