AMERICUS, Ga. – The Georgia Southwestern State University men's soccer program made history as Cesar Rubio-Amaya and Axel-Ambroise Gravel were named to the 2025 Peach Belt Conference All-Conference First Team, marking the first time in program history that two Hurricanes have earned first team honors in the same season. Rubio-Amaya also became the first GSW player ever to receive the prestigious PBC Select Sport Gold Ball Award, given annually to the league's top scorer.
Rubio-Amaya, a forward from Woodbridge, Va., led the Peach Belt in goals (10) and tied for the top spot in points (23) overall. In conference play, he ranked third with 17 points. In his first season with the Hurricanes, Rubio-Amaya's dynamic scoring presence helped power one of the most productive offenses in GSW history and solidified his place among the elite in the PBC.
Gravel, a midfielder from Dijon, France, closed out his third season in Americus with six goals - tied for fourth-most in the conference - and ranked fifth in points during league play with 14. A steady and creative force in the midfield, Gravel's leadership and consistency were instrumental in Georgia Southwestern's success this season under first-year head coach Joe Barber.
The Hurricanes' two first team selections underscore the program's growing presence in one of the most competitive Division II soccer conferences in the nation. Rubio-Amaya's Gold Ball Award recognition further cements GSW's 2025 campaign as one of the most decorated seasons in school history.
The Peach Belt Conference announced its annual awards Thursday, with Lander University's Christian Hatley named Offensive Player of the Year, Flagler College's Filip Hornburg taking both Defensive Player and Freshman of the Year honors, and the University of North Georgia's Anel Lilic earning Coach of the Year.
