YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. -- The Georgia Southwestern softball team won their Peach Belt Conference opening series on the road at Young Harris College this weekend. The Lady Canes won Game 1 and Game 2 of the series and fell to Young Harris College in the third and final game of the three-game series. GSW moves to 12-9 on the year already facing three different ranked opponents in Valdosta State, Auburn-Montgomery, and Lincoln Memorial. GSW will head on the road for a double-header matchup against the University of Montevallo on Wednesday before hosting a non-conference doubleheader versus Emmanuel College (Ga.) on Saturday afternoon. 

Game 1

The Lady Canes took control of the game in the first scoring three runs in the top of the first. GSW continued that pace scoring in three-run bursts in the first, third, and sixth inning. Regan Lee pitched 6.2IP only allowing one run in the contest. Zoe Willis kept up her feverish pace at the plate this season hitting two home runs and netting 6 RBIs in Game 1.

Game 2

Trinity Whitfield took over the game from the first pitch to the last during Game 2 of the three-game series. Whitfield pitched 7.0IP giving up zero runs throwing 99 pitches during the game. Zoe Willis hit another home run in the game giving her three in just two games against Young Harris College. Hailey Pinette and Katelyn Wood joined in on the fun and both hit home runs in the game, Kimmy Singer was a problem for Young Harris College stealing three bases in Game 2 alone after getting two in the first game.

Game 3

 Young Harris controlled Game 3 quickly scoring two runs in the first, two runs in the second, and four runs in the third inning putting the game out of reach. Despite the bats coming alive for the Lady Canes in the top of the sixth, scoring four runs to make it a three-run game, the defense and pitching were just not enough on Sunday and the Mountain Lions answered back with five of their own to get the run-rule victory to avoid the sweep.
