CARROLLTON, Ga. - West Georgia blew open Wednesday's non-conference baseball game against Georgia Southwestern with a 10-run sixth inning and went on to hand the Hurricanes a 17-4 loss at Cole Field.

The Wolves capitalized on three GSW errors in the sixth, as eight of the 10 runs in the inning were unearned, to improve to 28-13 overall as GSW fell to 13-31.

Southwestern opened the scoring by pushing across a run in the first inning when Evan Alderman scored from third on Will Redding's ground out to second.

The Hurricanes did not hold the lead for long. UWG answered with three runs in the bottom half of the second inning, highlighted by a two-run single from Matthew Pope. The Wolves stretched their advantage to 4-1 with a run in the third.

With an Alderman sacrifice fly in the fifth, GSW had closed the scoring cap to 4-2. Despite being held to one hit at the time, GSW had two runs and left three runners in scoring position.

UWG brought 15 batters to the plate in the sixth and scored its 10 runs on six hits and the three GSW errors to put the game out of reach.

Southwestern added a four-hit, two-run seventh with RBIs from Redding and Davey King.

Alderman and King turned in multi-hit performances for the Hurricanes. Alderman scored twice, stole two bases and went 2-for-4 with a RBI. King was 2-for-4 at the plate with a RBI.

Pope was one of five UWG players to collect multiple hits. Pope was a game-best 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Drew Eady, Troy Brown, Garrett Hayes and Dalton Rogers had two hits apiece. 

GSW used five pitchers in the ballgame. Starter Justin Barnes (1-3) lasted three innings before he was relieved by Michael Ranieri. After two scoreless innings from Ranieri, the Hurricanes used Kyle Spinks, Mitch Holloway and Daniel Perez. 

The Wolves matched GSW by using five pitchers in the contest. Reliever Ethan Hunter (2-0) picked up the win. Starter Colton Duttweiler pitched the first three innings.

GSW returns home for its final games of 2015. The Hurricanes host Francis Marion in a three-game series that begins Sunday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
