Tennis Splits With ABAC

AMERICUS - The Georgia Southwestern tennis teams split a non-conference matchup with Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) on Tuesday afternoon at the Susan K. Smith Tennis Complex. The GSW women were victorious over ABAC, 6-3. The men lost, 7-2.

GSW Women 6, ABAC 3

Mollie McGowan, Victoria Ondo and Melinda Vansant were victorious in both doubles and singles action for the Lady Hurricanes.

McGowan and Ondo teamed at No. 2 doubles to pick up an 8-5 win. McGowan proceeded to win her match at No. 3 singles and Ondo followed with a win at No. 4

Vansant won at No. 6 singles after partnering with Kalie Douberly for a win at No. 3 doubles.

McGowan and Vansant both won their singles matches by the score of 6-1, 6-1.

Southwestern travels to Montevallo on Friday for its final road match of the spring, a 3 p.m. contest against the Falcons.

GSW Men 2, ABAC 7

The GSW men fell behind 3-0 after doubles play and could never recover in the loss to the Stallions.

Southwestern picked up its wins from Ryan Bartz and Jake Koonce at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively. Bartz defeated Tim Kueckelhaus, 6-3, 6-2, and Koonce knocked off Matthew Anglin, 6-1, 6-4.

Yvan Ruelle played a marathon match at No. 3 against Taylor Hardy where he won the opening set 7-5, lost the second set 7-5 and dropped the third set, 7-6, with a 7-2 tiebreak score.

The Hurricane's final match of the year comes on Sunday at 2 p.m. against USC Aiken.
