The Georgia Southwestern men's soccer team came up short
in its attempt to upset No. 20 Montevallo on Saturday afternoon at
Hurricane Field, losing 1-0.
James Steer notched his first score of the season, and the lone
goal of the match, on a header from six yards in the 21st minute to
lift UM to the victory.
The scoreless second half featured few serious scoring
opportunities.
Both sides had two shots on goal in the match. Montevallo
(12-1-1, 5-1-1 PBC) led 4-2 in corner kicks.
It was the fourth 1-0 loss of the season for GSW.
Goalkeeper David Porley finished with one save for the
Hurricanes. Brendan Ledgeway stopped two for Montevallo.
Southwestern (2-9, 1-4) travels to No. 10 Clayton State on
Wednesday for a 5 p.m. match.
