National Honor Highlights Hurricanes' Excellence in the Classroom

AMERICUS, Ga. -- The Georgia Southwestern State University men's golf team added another national honor to its memorable 2025-26 season Thursday, earning recognition as a Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) NCAA Division II All-Academic Team.

The PLATFORM Golf Team Academic Award recognizes collegiate golf programs that achieve a cumulative team grade-point average of 3.0 or higher during the academic year. Georgia Southwestern was one of 39 NCAA Division II programs and 331 schools across all collegiate divisions to receive the distinction.

The national academic recognition caps a season in which the Hurricanes excelled both in the classroom and on the course.

Georgia Southwestern captured its second Peach Belt Conference championship in the last four years, winning the league title by nine strokes before advancing to the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship. The Hurricanes reached the national quarterfinals and finished among the nation's elite programs.

Individually, the Hurricanes produced three PING All-Americans in Sam Brown, Jordan Jones and Sacha Corlouer, while head coach Darcy Donaldson was named a finalist for the Dave Williams Award, presented annually to the NCAA Division II National Coach of the Year.

The program also celebrated outstanding academic success throughout the year. Sam Brown, Oscar Hammar and Stefan Rojas were named GCAA Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars, while Brown and Hammar earned Peach Belt Conference All-Academic Team honors. Brown, Hammar, Rojas and junior Elias Järn were all recognized as Peach Belt Conference Presidential Honor Roll Silver Scholars, while senior João Costa earned Bronze Scholar distinction.

Brown, an accounting major, collected GCAA All-America Scholar honors for the second consecutive season while earning PING Second Team All-America recognition and finishing the year ranked No. 12 in the NCAA Division II individual rankings.

Hammar and Rojas, both business administration majors, helped lead the Hurricanes' championship season while balancing success in the classroom. Rojas closed the season ranked No. 72 nationally, and Hammar earned Peach Belt Conference All-Academic Team recognition for his academic and athletic achievements.

The GCAA has recognized outstanding academic achievement among collegiate golf programs for more than three decades, honoring teams that demonstrate excellence both in competition and in the classroom.
