AMERICUS, Ga. – The Georgia Southwestern State University men's golf team has climbed to the top of NCAA Division II, taking over the No. 1 position in the latest Scoreboard powered by Clippd national computer rankings released Wednesday, Oct. 21.
The Hurricanes moved up from No. 2 following a dominant performance at The Parris Island Legends Collegiate, where they closed their fall schedule with a 35-stroke victory and swept the top three individual positions.
The ranking marks the third season in program history that Georgia Southwestern has reached No. 1 in a national computer ranking system. The Hurricanes previously held the top spot in the Golfstat rankings during the 2011-12 and 2019-20 seasons, making the 2026-27 campaign their first return to No. 1 since the 2019-20 season.
GSW leads the latest Scoreboard rankings with an average of 87.18 weighted points, narrowly edging defending national champion Florida Southern, which sits second at 87.13. Central Oklahoma follows in third at 72.24, with Nova Southeastern (71.66) and Lincoln Memorial (71.60) rounding out the national top five.
Through four fall tournaments, the Hurricanes have compiled a 32-6-2 head-to-head record against Division II competition.
Georgia Southwestern's rise to the top has been fueled by a strong fall campaign that included three runner-up finishes before its breakthrough victory at Parris Island. The Hurricanes capped the semester with a 26-under-par 838 (281-277-280), placing four golfers among the top five and all five starters inside the top 12.
GSW established a 27-stroke lead through the opening 36 holes before extending its advantage to 35 strokes in the final round, securing its fourth team tournament championship of the calendar year.
The Hurricanes' national standing is further strengthened by three golfers ranked among the top six individually in Division II, including two inside the top four.
Junior
Jordan Jones leads GSW at No. 3 nationally in the latest Scoreboard individual rankings. Jones has one tournament victory and two top-three finishes across four fall events. He captured medalist honors at the Hurricane Invitational earlier this month before finishing runner-up at Parris Island with a 9-under 207.
Junior Juan Velásquez follows at No. 4 nationally after claiming his first collegiate individual championship at Parris Island. The newcomer finished at 11-under 205, leading the 60-player field with consecutive rounds of 68 before closing with a 69. Velásquez has one victory and one top-three finish in four events this fall.
Senior
Sam Brown gives the Hurricanes a third golfer among the nation's elite, checking in at No. 6 nationally. Brown has one top-three finish in four tournaments, most recently placing third at Parris Island with a 6-under 210 to complete GSW's sweep of the individual podium.
Florida Southern's Jack VanderSchuur holds the No. 1 individual ranking, followed by Oklahoma Christian's Christian Yanovitch at No. 2.
The Hurricanes' return to the top of the computer rankings adds another chapter to the program's history of national success. Georgia Southwestern first reached No. 1 in Golfstat during the 2011-12 season and again ascended to the top in October 2019, maintaining that position through the remainder of the 2019-20 campaign.
With its fall schedule complete, GSW enters the winter break atop the Scoreboard national rankings while also holding the No. 2 position in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek Division II Coaches Poll.
