Jones Keeps PBC Weekly Honor in Americus Following Tournament Win

AMERICUS, Ga. — Georgia Southwestern State University junior Jordan Jones has been named the Peach Belt Conference Men's Golfer of the Week, the league office announced Monday, following his individual championship at the Hurricane Invitational against a field loaded with nationally ranked competition.

Jones captured medalist honors with an 8-under-par 136 (70-66) to top the 81-player field and secure his second tournament victory in his last six regular-season starts. The reigning PBC Player of the Year becomes a two-time recipient of the conference's weekly award.

The Auckland, New Zealand, native opened with a 2-under 70 before catching fire in the second round, carding seven birdies en route to a 6-under 66. His closing round included three consecutive birdies on Nos. 7-9 as he finished tied for the tournament lead with 10 birdies overall.

Jones' performance came against a challenging 14-team field featuring seven nationally ranked programs, including five among the top 10 in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek Division II Coaches Poll.

Rain on Monday shortened the Hurricane Invitational to 36 holes, with Georgia Southwestern finishing runner-up to No. 8 Nova Southeastern in the team standings.

The recognition marks the second consecutive week a Hurricane has earned PBC Golfer of the Week honors, following Juan Velásquez's selection after a fourth-place finish at The National Preview.

Jones' award is the fifth for Georgia Southwestern since March, joining previous selections by Sam Brown (March 2), Jones (March 23), Sacha Corlouër (April 6) and Velásquez (Oct. 5). The five awards, earned by four different golfers, highlight the depth of a GSW program that continues to compete among the nation's elite.
