AMERICUS, Ga. – The Georgia Southwestern State University women's soccer team opened its 2026 season with a 1-1 draw against Florida Southern College on Saturday afternoon at Hurricane Field, earning its first result in three all-time meetings with the Moccasins.
Sophomore
Jordin Gundin put the Lady Hurricanes in front in the 58th minute with the third goal of her collegiate career and GSW's first goal in the all-time series against Florida Southern. The Hurricanes remained in front until the closing minutes before Ally Prentice delivered the equalizer for FSC with 2:21 remaining.
The result came against a Florida Southern squad that opened its season Thursday evening with a 3-2 road victory over Peach Belt Conference preseason favorite Columbus State University.
Both defenses controlled a scoreless opening half, with neither side generating much in the way of scoring opportunities. Florida Southern recorded the only shot of the first 45 minutes, an Isabella Payne attempt in the final minute that GSW goalkeeper
Alana Beddow turned away.
The pace picked up after halftime, and the Moccasins tested Beddow twice in the opening 11 minutes of the second period. She stopped Emily Fowlkes in the 50th minute before denying Ellie Dossantos six minutes later to keep the match scoreless.
GSW broke through at the 57:19 mark.
Gundin intercepted a Florida Southern clearance attempt outside the penalty area, stepped forward and fired a shot from beyond the 18-yard box that found the lower right corner to give the Lady Hurricanes a 1-0 advantage.
The goal was the third of Gundin's career and gave GSW its first lead in the all-time series against the Moccasins.
Florida Southern increased the pressure as it searched for an equalizer, generating eight of its nine second-half shots after Gundin's goal. The GSW defense held firm as Hayden Johnston hit the crossbar in the 81st minute, but the Moccasins finally broke through following a corner kick in the 88th.
Prentice scored at the 87:39 mark to pull FSC even at 1-1.
The Lady Hurricanes nearly answered in the closing seconds.
Zoie St. John sent an attempt high and wide in the 89th minute before
Cassidy Brunner put a shot on frame with 19 seconds remaining, forcing Florida Southern goalkeeper Carly Brodsky to make the save and preserve the draw.
Florida Southern finished with a 10-4 advantage in shots and placed four attempts on goal compared with two for GSW. The Moccasins also held a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.
Beddow made three saves while playing all 90 minutes in goal for the Lady Hurricanes.

- GSW makes its first road trip of the season Wednesday for a 3 p.m. match at North Greenville University. The schools' only other meeting came in 2015.
