Gundin's Late Equalizer Earns Lady Hurricanes Historic Draw at Georgia College

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Jordin Gundin scored her team-leading third goal of the season in the 82nd minute Wednesday evening as Georgia Southwestern State University rallied for a 1-1 draw against Georgia College & State University in Peach Belt Conference women's soccer action at Bobcat Field.

The result was a historic one for the Lady Hurricanes (1-5-7, 0-3-5 PBC), who earned their first result in 11 all-time road matches against Georgia College (6-5-4, 4-3-1 PBC) and just their second result overall against the Bobcats in program history.

Gundin's equalizer also marked only the second goal GSW has scored against Georgia College in the all-time series and the first since 2008.

The Lady Hurricanes held the Bobcats without a shot in the opening half, while generating two opportunities of their own.

Cassidy Brunner recorded the first shot of the match in the 29th minute, putting an attempt toward the bottom-right corner that Georgia College goalkeeper Kassidy Fortin turned away. Jasmine White added another attempt in the 38th minute as the teams entered halftime scoreless.

Georgia College began to generate pressure after the break, but GSW goalkeeper Hannah Garrett kept the Bobcats off the scoreboard. Garrett stopped an attempt from Alayna Cobb in the 59th minute before denying Kaisa Fagerstrom in the 71st.

The Lady Hurricanes created a pair of opportunities of their own, with Sydney Weslowski forcing Fortin into a save in the 57th minute.

GSW nearly broke through in the 76th minute when Rachel Boucher put a shot on frame, but Fortin made the save. Taelyn Townsend followed with an attempt that sailed high just 27 seconds later.

Georgia College capitalized moments afterward when Rachel Zetina collected a loose ball inside the penalty area and scored at 75:58 to give the Bobcats a 1-0 advantage.

The Lady Hurricanes answered less than six minutes later.

Townsend dribbled toward the right corner of the 18-yard box before rolling a pass along the top of the penalty area to a charging Gundin, who struck the ball in stride and drove a low shot past the goalkeeper into the left corner of the net at 81:30 to level the match at 1-1. The goal was Gundin's third of the season, while Townsend picked up the assist.

Georgia College continued to press in the closing minutes, generating three shots and two corner kicks after the equalizer, but the GSW defense held firm to preserve the draw.

The Bobcats finished with an 8-6 advantage in shots and a 6-2 edge in corner kicks, while the Lady Hurricanes held a 4-3 advantage in shots on goal.

Gundin, Brunner, Weslowski and Boucher each placed a shot on frame for GSW. Garrett played all 90 minutes in goal and finished with two saves, while Fortin recorded three for Georgia College.

The draw marked GSW's seventh of the season and fifth in Peach Belt Conference play, extending the Lady Hurricanes' single-season program record for ties.
