Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Lady Canes Blank North Greenville, 2-0, for First Win of Season

TIGERVILLE, S.C. – Georgia Southwestern State University women's soccer controlled the action from start to finish Wednesday afternoon, earning its first victory of the 2026 season with a 2-0 shutout of North Greenville University at Pepsi Stadium.

Sophomore transfer Zoie St. John scored in the 30th minute and redshirt senior Maci Dunlap added an insurance goal in the 71st as the Lady Hurricanes improved to 1-0-1 on the young season.

GSW held a commanding 14-1 advantage in shots, including an 8-1 edge in attempts on goal, and did not allow North Greenville (0-2) to record a shot until the 73rd minute.

The Lady Hurricanes applied pressure from the opening minutes and forced NGU goalkeeper Cadie Pendergrass into five saves over the first 18 minutes. Riley Pearson, Jordin Gundin, Taelyn Townsend, Cassidy Brunner and St. John all put attempts on frame during the early barrage.

GSW finally broke through at the 29:57 mark. Anna Wheatley delivered a free kick from along the sideline that found St. John near the top of the 18-yard box, where she converted to give the Lady Hurricanes a 1-0 advantage.

St. John nearly doubled the lead less than a minute later, but Pendergrass made her sixth save of the half to keep North Greenville within one.

The Lady Hurricanes outshot the Crusaders 10-0 over the opening 45 minutes and carried the one-goal advantage into halftime.

GSW continued to control the match after the break before Dunlap provided some breathing room in the 71st minute. Sydney Weslowski sent a corner kick into the box and Dunlap headed it home at the 70:31 mark for the fourth goal of her career and a 2-0 GSW lead.

North Greenville recorded its first and only shot less than two minutes later when Ana Maria Pinzon put an attempt on target, but GSW goalkeeper Alana Beddow made the save to preserve the shutout.

Beddow played the opening 75:44 and made one save before Hannah Garrett came on to close out the final 14:16 in goal. The two combined for GSW's first clean sheet of the season.

The Lady Hurricanes finished with a 14-1 advantage in shots and an 8-1 edge in shots on goal. GSW also generated seven corner kicks while surrendering just one. St. John led the attack with three shots, all on goal, while Pearson added two attempts.

Wednesday marked just the second meeting between the programs and GSW's first victory in the series. North Greenville won the only previous matchup, 3-0, in Tigerville in 2015.
