VALDOSTA, Ga. — Georgia Southwestern showed flashes at the plate Tuesday afternoon, but couldn't keep pace with timely swings from Valdosta State as the Blazers swept a nonconference doubleheader at Steel's Diamond at Blazer Park.
The Lady Hurricanes put together one of their stronger offensive efforts in recent games, highlighted by a four-run inning in the opener and another home run from
Peyton Namyslowski in the nightcap. But momentum swings in the first game and an early outburst in the late game proved too much to overcome.
Tuesday's Top Performers
- Madison Banks: 4-for-6, 2B, R, team-leading 13th multi-hit game of the season
- Kendall Huelsman: 2-for-5, R, BB, reached base safely for the ninth consecutive game
- Peyton Namyslowski: 2-for-6, HR, RBI, 2 R, homered in three of the last four games
- Maggie McDonald: 2-for-4, RBI, BB
Game 1 - Late Homer Lifts VSU Past GSW, 5-4
Georgia Southwestern struck first with its biggest inning of the day, sending nine to the plate in the third and turning a one-run deficit into a 4-1 advantage.
Madison Banks sparked the rally with a single before
Lani Dansby and
Maggie McDonald each drove in runs.
Madison Griffis delivered the key swing, lining a two-RBI single to cap the four-run frame.
The lead didn't last long though as Valdosta State answered with three runs in the bottom half, using a pair of unearned runs to even things at 4-4 and quickly swing the momentum back.
From there, both sides traded zeros as GSW continued to apply pressure, finishing with 10 hits, but couldn't find the go-ahead run.
In the seventh, VSU delivered the final swing, using a leadoff solo home run to walk it off and claim the opener.
Game 2 - Early Surge Sends VSU Past GSW, 10-1 (5 inn.)
The nightcap turned quickly.
Valdosta State jumped ahead in the first and broke the game open in the second, using a grand slam to build a 6-0 lead and take control.
Georgia Southwestern's response came in the fourth, when Namyslowski stayed hot at the plate, launching a solo home run — her team-leading seventh of the season — to get the Lady Hurricanes on the board.
But the early deficit proved too much to overcome.
VSU added two more runs in both the third and fourth innings, pulling away to secure the run-rule win.
Notes

- The Lady Hurricanes are now 0-28 all-time at Valdosta State during the program's NCAA era
