MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia Southwestern women's cross country team continued its fall campaign on Friday evening, competing in the Bobcat Invitational hosted by Georgia College at the Council Farm course. The Lady Hurricanes placed 13th overall in the 5K event that featured 15 collegiate programs, including several Peach Belt Conference opponents.
Senior Grettie Reifenberger made her Georgia Southwestern debut and immediately set the tone for the Blue and Gold, leading the Hurricanes with a 22:36.4 finish — good for 60th overall in a deep field of more than 120 runners. Freshman Crystal Lance followed Reifenberger with a 27:12.9, while sophomore Sonja Bernacki turned in a 28:17.7 showing in her second race of the season. Junior teammates Luiza Rodrigues (34:28.0), Maggie McDonald (34:28.5), and Madison Griffis (34:29.3) crossed close together to close out the GSW scoring.
The Lady Hurricanes posted a team total of 2:27:03 and an average time of 29:24, finishing ahead of Clark Atlanta and just behind USC Aiken.
Augusta University captured the team title with five runners placing in the top 15.
The Lady Hurricanes return to competition on Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Clark Atlanta University Panther Cross Country Invitational as they continue preparations for the season-ending Peach Belt Conference Championship.
