PBC Road Win Rewrites GSW Record Book

FLORENCE, S.C. -- The Georgia Southwestern State University men's soccer team broke the all-time record for wins in a season with a 3-2 victory over Francis Marion at Hartzler Field Saturday.

The Hurricanes (5-8-1, 1-4-0 PBC) benefited from a Patriot own goal in the 72nd minute that turned out to be the game-winner, rewriting the record books in the process.

GSW was able to come back from one goal deficits twice before finally taking the lead late.

After Francis Marion opened the scoring in the 22nd minute on a goal from Levi Sandman, Divin Moke answered for the Hurricanes with his fourth goal of the season on a 15-yard strike from the right side to get GSW on the board.

The Patriots would retake the lead six minutes into the second half on a converted penalty kick from Jordan Dechere, but GSW defender Lucas Kimmel answered with his first career goal less than a minute later to even the score again.

Goalkeeper Josh Swift recorded four saves and stopped a penalty kick attempt in the 53rd minute to keep the score knotted at two and pick up his fifth win of the season.

Silvio Polly and Chris Steinwachs each took two shots for Georgia Southwestern, while Chris Avery, Moke and Kimmel each had one a piece. Francis Marion had a 12-7 advantage in shots and both sides took four corner kicks.

Up Next: GSW returns home to Hurricane Field for the penultimate match of the season Wednesday with kickoff scheduled for 3:30 p.m. against Young Harris.
