The Georgia Southwestern men's soccer team picked up its first
win of the season on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Brewton-Parker,
2-1, in Mount Vernon, Ga.
GSW took the early 1-0 lead when Sam Hooke
crossed the ball to Kacey Barnard,
who drilled a header to the near post past BPC
goalkeeper Chris Coker in the 21st minute.
The score remained 1-0 deep in to the second half as both sides
were held scoreless until the 83rd minute when Fabian Moriera
bounced in a header for the Barons off a corner kick from teammate
Adam Beattie.
The 'Canes responded quickly and spoiled
Brewton-Parker's comeback hopes 40 seconds
later when Hooke drove his shot to the
upper right corner of the goal for the game-winning score
off a pass from Kevin Huet.
Brewton-Parker outshot GSW 14-11 and led in corner
kicks.
Southwestern returns home for a 5 p.m. match with
Thomas University on Wednesday, Sept. 22.
