Georgia Southwestern
scored in the fifth minute against UNC Pembroke, but could not add
another goal and the visiting Braves stormed back for a 2-1 win
Saturday afternoon at Hurricane Field.
GSW falls to 1-8 overall and 0-3 in the Peach Belt Conference,
while UNCP improves to 3-6-2 and 1-3-1 in the PBC.
Ross Sellers gave
the Hurricanes a 1-0 advantage at the 4:19 mark when
he found a loose ball off Kyle Hutton's corner kick
and clipped the crossbar to put his shot over UNCP
goalkeeper Ryan Hanson for the score.
UNCP's Ricardo Arias tied
the match when he found an open goal seven yards out
off a rebound in the 39th minute.
The game-winning goal came
in the second half for the Braves when Brett Luccia took an
Andrew Brown pass, that split the GSW defense down the middle
of the field, and scored from 12 yards out.
UNCP led Southwestern
18-7 in shots and 11-2 in corner kicks.
Goalkeeper David
Porley tallied nine saves for GSW. Hanson stopped two
for UNC Pembroke.
Southwestern hosts North Georgia at 3:30 p.m. on
Tuesday.
