Namyslowski celebration the plate vs Florida Southern

Game Recap: Softball |

Perfect Start Continues With Sweep of Florida Southern

AMERICUS, Ga. – The Georgia Southwestern State University softball team capped a perfect Opening Weekend on Sunday afternoon at Lady Canes Field, sweeping Florida Southern College in a doubleheader behind timely power, disciplined at-bats, and steady pitching performances. The Lady Hurricanes claimed a 7-4 win in the opener before pulling away for an 11-6 victory in Game 2 to remain unbeaten through their first four games of the 2026 season.

Top Performers – Sunday Namyslowski, Huelsman Go Back-to-Back as GSW Takes Opener

After Florida Southern scratched across a run in the second inning, the Hurricanes answered immediately and then seized control in the third with back-to-back long balls.

With one on, Namyslowski launched a two-run homer down the left-field line, her third blast this season, to put GSW in front for good. Two batters later, Huelsman followed with a towering two-run shot of her own, stretching the lead to 5-1.

Georgia Southwestern added insurance in the fourth inning as Banks doubled home a run before Rebecca Hazard brought in another with a groundout, pushing the advantage to 7-1.

Florida Southern mounted a brief rally in the fifth, trimming the margin to three, but Johnson worked through traffic to finish six strong innings. Burns entered in the seventh and retired the side to earn the save and seal the Hurricanes' third win of the season.

Eight-Run First Inning Fuels Game 2 Victory

The Hurricanes wasted no time in the nightcap, erupting for eight runs in the bottom of the first inning to take immediate command.

RBIs from Namyslowski, Huelsman, Lani Dansby, Riley Ernst, and Banks fueled the early surge as GSW sent 12 hitters to the plate. Banks' two-run single capped the frame and gave the Hurricanes an 8-0 cushion.

Florida Southern clawed back with multiple runs in the second and fourth innings, but Georgia Southwestern answered again in the fifth. Huelsman delivered a run-scoring single before Burns reached on an error, allowing another run to score and restoring breathing room.

Burns then took over in the circle, tossing 3 1/3 scoreless innings of relief to halt the comeback and secure her first win of the season as the Hurricanes closed out the sweep.
