Canes Lead Wire-to-Wire in 79-65 Win to Hand Georgia College First PBC Loss

AMERICUS, Ga. — Georgia Southwestern never trailed Saturday night, controlling the game from the opening minutes to hand Georgia College & State University its first Peach Belt Conference loss of the season in a 79-65 victory inside Storm Dome.

The Hurricanes led for nearly the entire 40 minutes, built a double-digit cushion in each half, and closed the night with their third straight win over the Bobcats, their longest winning streak in the all-time series.

Fast Start Establishes Control

GSW wasted little time asserting itself, knocking down six three-pointers in the first half and shooting over 46 percent from the floor to take a 40-32 lead into the break.

The Hurricanes' ball movement and transition play created clean looks early, while the defense limited Georgia College to just 1-of-9 shooting from beyond the arc in the opening half.

Freeman Records First Career Double-Double

Markel Freeman delivered a milestone performance, recording the first double-double of his GSW career with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Freeman added two three-pointers and anchored the Hurricanes on the glass as they consistently won second-chance opportunities.

Freeman scored at key moments in both halves, including a pair of baskets during a second-half run that pushed the lead to double digits for good.

Balance on Display Across the Lineup

The Hurricanes placed six players in double figures, showcasing its depth and balance once again. Deonte Williams finished with 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting while adding three blocks, and JR Jacobs chipped in 13 points and seven assists.

Reigning PBC Player of the Week Amir Reaves added 13 points and four rebounds, while Matthew Webster was perfect from the field, knocking down all three of his 3-point attempts. Keshawn Brown Jr. rounded out the scoring surge with 10 points off the bench.

Defense Drives the Margin

The Hurricanes' defensive effort was just as decisive. GSW held Georgia College to 33.9 percent shooting and just three made three-pointers, limiting the Bobcats to 20 points below their season scoring average.

Georgia Southwestern also protected the paint, blocked eight shots, and forced key turnovers that prevented any sustained run by the visitors.

League's Largest Margin Continues to Grow

With the win, Georgia Southwestern improved to 10-3 overall and 3-2 in Peach Belt Conference play, while maintaining the largest scoring margin of any team in the league at plus-12.2.
