#5 Hurricanes Lead Bearcat by 7 Strokes After Day 1

AUGUSTA, Ga. — The fifth-ranked Georgia Southwestern men's golf team posted a two-round total of 564 to finish 12-under-par on Monday and finish the day with a seven shot lead at the Bearcat Fall Invitational hosted by Lander University. The 15-team tournament played at the par-72, 7,073-yard Forest Hills Golf Club features eight programs ranked in the top 25 of NCAA Division II according to the latest Golf Coaches Association of America rankings.

Chase McLain led the Hurricanes with a two-round total of 140 to sit tied for third place in the 84-player field heading into Tuesday's final 18 holes. McLain tied for the low round of the opening 18 holes with a 68.

Newcomer Garrett Giles posted two rounds of 71 to finish the day tied for fifth. Jack Tharrington finished a stroke back of Giles with a score of 143 for the day. Erik Fogel carded a 145 and Nicolas Escobar led the Hurricanes with a 68 in Round 2 to climb 34 spots in the standings to finish tied for 31st after posting a 79 in his opening round.  

No. 6 North Georgia shaved two strokes off the Hurricanes lead in the second round, but remain seven strokes back at 5-under heading into Tuesday. Noah Zediker leads the indivdual standings at 6-under.

The final round begins at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
