ALBANY, Ga. — The 16th-ranked Georgia Southwestern men's golf team posted a three-round score of 5-under 571 on Tuesday at the Hurricane Invitational to finish the event in second place out of 17 teams. The event was played at Doublegate Country Club in Albany, Ga. (Par 72, 7,136 Yards) and featured seven teams ranked in the top 25 of NCAA Division II according to the latest Golfstat computer rankings.
Nicolas Escobar led the Hurricanes with an 5-under 139 on Monday. Escobar's best round was the first 18, where he knocked down three birdies over the back nine on his way to a 69. Escobar finished tied for second place out of 90 golfers.
Jack Tharrington posted a 71 in the first 36 holes to finished second on the team with a 1-under 142, tied for 13th place overall. Chase McClain was tied for second for the Hurricanes, with a 4-under 68 in Round 2. Simon Estrada posted a 71 in Round 2, his best 18 of the day and finished 2-over, in a tie for 27th place. Payne Sells tied for 64th at 8-over.
No. 9 North Georgia finished the event with the team win closing out the tournament strong and beating the Hurricanes by a stroke. Samuel Trueba from King University was the individual winner of the event.
