GSW in Middle of Pack at Southeastern Collegiate

VALDOSTA, Ga. — The 11th-ranked Georgia Southwestern men's golf team posted a two-round total of 584 to finish 8-over par on Monday at the First Federal Southeastern Collegiate hosted by Valdosta State University. The 18-team tournament played at the par-72, 7,481-yard Kinderlou Forest Golf Club features 12 programs ranked in the top 25 of NCAA Division II according to the latest Golfstat computer rankings.

Simon Estrada led the Hurricanes with two rounds of 72 to sit tied for 15th place in the 90-player field heading into Tuesday's final 18 holes. Estrada posted three birdies and three bogeys in each of his rounds on Monday.

Nicolas Escobar improved from his opening round 74 with a 72 in the afternoon to climb 13 spots in the standings and end Day 1 tied for 29th. Jack Tharrington and Erik Fogel were a stroke back of Escobar with scores of 147 and Chase McLain carded a 153.  

No. 4 Lincoln Memorial and No. 21 Columbus State finished the day tied atop the team standings at 5-under par. Jonty Marshall from the University of Tampa leads the indivdual standings at 7-under.

The final round begins at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday.
