AMERICUS - The Georgia Southwestern women's soccer team knew it would be an uphill climb to pull off an upset against Armstrong Atlantic State University, the 2nd-ranked team in NCAA Division II, on Saturday afternoon at Hurricane Field. Despite turning in one of its best defensive efforts of the season, the Lady Hurricanes were unable to threaten the visiting Pirates and lost 3-0.

GSW held the Peach Belt Conference's leading scorer, Morgan Mitchell, without a goal. However, Mitchell and Emily Cattanach, the PBC's leader in assists, found other ways to help Armstrong improve to 13-1-1 overall and 9-0 in conference play.

Mitchell delivered a pass to Andye Dawson in the eighth minute to open the Armstrong scoring and Cattanach sent a cross into the box in the 58th minute that led to Candace Crosby's first goal of the season. In between those two scores, Armstrong picked up a score off a deflected cross in the box that bounced off a GSW player and into the goal at the 34:19 mark. 

The Lady Hurricanes fall to 2-12-1 overall and drop to 0-10 in the PBC.

Armstrong led GSW in shots on goal, 12-1, and held a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Southwestern goalkeeper Amber Bahri saved nine shots and extended her conference lead with 96 stops this fall.

Starter Morgan Luckie, who has allowed only three goals in 12 appearances this fall, saved one shot for Armstrong.

The Lady Hurricanes travel to Milledgeville on Wednesday for an 8 p.m. match with Georgia College.

Saturday was GSW's "Pink Day" game. GSW's game-worn pink jerseys were auctioned off with the proceeds benefiting breast cancer victims.
