Senior Stephanie Patrylo scored three goals and freshman
Courtney Simpson added two scores to lead the Georgia Southwestern
women's soccer team to a 7-0 win over Florida College on
Friday afternoon at Hurricane Field in the first match of the third
annual Quality Inn/Hurricane Invitational.
Junior Brittney Hill opened the scoring for GSW in the 13th
minute, knocking in a cross from freshman Hayley Knight from just
outside the right post.
Patrylo notched her first goal less than three minutes later on
a header, also from the right post, off a feed from Knight.
Simpson scored the next two goals for GSW, with the first coming
at the 24:51 mark off a pass from Hill. The second game minutes
later when Knight picked up her single-game school-record third
assist with a long cross from the left corner to the middle of the
box that Simpson punched into the back of the net.
In the 42nd minute, sophomore Ally Canganelli drilled a shot
near the top of the box that found its way between the pipes off a
loose ball and the Lady Hurricanes took a 5-0 lead into the
halftime break.
The lead remained at five goals until the 82nd minute when
Patrylo converted a penalty kick. Less than two minutes later,
Patrylo completed the hat trick with another header, this time off
a cross from Hill.
The Lady Hurricanes recorded five assists in contest, tying the
school record set in 2008.
Freshman goalkeeper Courtney Allison stopped two shots for GSW
in the first half to pick up her first collegiate win. Sophomore
Amber Bahri saved six in the second stanza for the Lady 'Canes. On
the other side, Jasmine Jacobs stopped seven for Florida
College.
GSW finished with a 22-15 shots advantage.
Southwestern takes to the pitch again on Sunday for the final
game of the invitational at 5 p.m. against LaGrange College.
