PEMBROKE, N.C. -- Ashley Morales' 3-pointer with nine seconds
left lifted UNC Pembroke past Georgia Southwestern, 68-66 in Peach
Belt Conference action on Saturday afternoon.
Morales led four Lady Braves (11-14, 7-11 PBC) in double figures
with 16 points.
Nadirah Gardner scored 19 points to lead four players in double
figures for GSW (7-19, 2-17).
The Lady Hurricanes trailed by a many as 17 in the first half
before cutting the gap to 36-28 by intermission. Terra Branch's
3-pointer at the 15:17 mark gave GSW its biggest lead of the game
at 43-40.
Pembroke went on a 15-4 run from there, and GSW tied it at 62 on
Whitley Wiltz's offensive put back at the 3:56 mark.
Gardner gave Southwestern the lead at 65-64 with 19 seconds
remaining. However, Morales answered with the big shot ten
seconds later.
With a chance to tie in the final seconds, Pembroke's Talina
Faison stole the ball and the game.
Rebounds were even at 41, and GSW shot 33 percent compared with
44 percent for Pembroke.
Branch, Brandi Burris and Jamilah Sharp all scored 11 points,
and Sharp had a team-high seven boards.
The Lady Hurricanes return home next Saturday, February 28 to
wrap-up the regular season with a Homecoming tilt against Augusta
State.
