Lady Pirates Hold Off Georgia Southwestern, 78-60 

Junior Lauren Hall's 18 first-half points sparked the Armstrong Atlantic State women's basketball squad to a 78-60 Peach Belt Conference victory over visiting Georgia Southwestern State on Wednesday evening at Alumni Arena.

Hall's first-half performance helped the Lady Pirates (9-2, 4-0 PBC) shrug off a subpar effort on the boards, as Georgia Southwestern (5-6, 0-4 PBC) outrebounded AASU, 54-31, including a stout 36-9 edge in offensive rebounds.

AASU held a 45-26 halftime lead. A 10-0 run by Georgia Southwestern brought the Lady Hurricanes to within eight early in the second half, but Ashley Duhart and Lacey Willis sparked a 12-4 run that put the Lady Pirates back out in front by 16, 64-48, with 8:14 left. AASU would hit 8-of-9 free throws in the final minute and a half to seal the victory.

Southwestern was led by Nadirah Gardner's 16 points and Brittany Reynolds' nine points and game-high 12 rebounds.

Willis finished the night with 18 points for AASU. Duhart also finished with 18 points, her career high, on 5-of-8 shooting from the floor and 7-of-13 from the free throw line.

The Lady Hurricanes return home on Saturday, January 10, for a 2:00 p.m. Peach Belt Conference contest with No. 20-ranked USC Aiken.

Men's Recap

Pirates Power Past Georgia Southwestern, 85-68  

Senior guard T.T. Hall broke out of a scoring slump with a game-high 24 points, leading Armstrong Atlantic State to its sixth straight victory in an 85-68 Peach Belt Conference men's basketball win over visiting Georgia Southwestern State on Wednesday evening at Alumni Arena.

Hall led a quartet of Armstrong Atlantic (10-1, 3-1 PBC) players in double figures, while also handing GSW (5-6, 1-3 PBC) its second straight loss.

Southwestern was led by Chris Rawls' 21 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the floor and 7-of-9 from the free throw line. Freshman Savannah native Evan Mobley, a product of Windsor Forest HS, just a mile away from the AASU campus, recorded 13 points off the bench in his first collegiate game in his hometown.

Reigning PBC Player of the Week Brian Moultrie added a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds for AASU, while Calvin Wilson added 14 points and Dwight Tolbert chipped in 12.

The Pirates forced 19 turnovers from Georgia Southwestern and owned a 42-36 advantage on the boards.

The Hurricanes return home on Saturday, January 10, for a 4:00 p.m. Peach Belt Conference contest with No. 11-ranked USC Aiken.
