The GSW women's basketball team battled back from an 11-point
deficit to defeat Eckerd College 75-74 in St. Petersburg, Fla. on
Friday afternoon.
GSW led 2-1 early in the first half but would not recapture
the lead again until the score was 69-68 with 3:45 to play.
Lady Hurricanes forward Jamilah Sharp knocked down one of two
free throws to give GSW a three point advantage
75-72, the largest lead for Southwestern in the
game, with one minute and 50 seconds remaining.
Javiera Novion answered for the Tritons nine seconds later
with a layup. Those were the final points of the game. Both
teams were unable to score over the final six
possessions. Eckerd had the last look, but Stephanie Grace
was unable to connect on a jumper with four seconds to go.
GSW junior guard Brittany Reynolds scored a game-high and
career-high 23 points to lead three Hurricanes in double figures.
Reynolds connected on 7-of-11 shots from the floor and 8-of-9 from
the foul line while pulling down nine rebounds. Brandi Burris
added 18 points and Whitley Wiltz tallied 15 points.
Southwestern shot 35.8% for the game and hit 24-of-28 from the
charity stripe.
GSW (3-1) concludes play at the Eckerd tournament with a
