Three-Peat: Nutt Claims PBC Freshman of the Week Again

AMERICUS, Ga. – Georgia Southwestern State University southpaw Johnny Nutt has earned his third consecutive Peach Belt Conference Baseball Freshman of the Week honor, the league office announced Monday, marking a historic milestone for the Hurricanes' program.

Nutt becomes the first player in GSW baseball history to win the freshman weekly award three times in a single season and the second Hurricane to win any of the PBC's weekly awards for three straight weeks.

The Fitzgerald, Ga., native and Wilcox County High School graduate delivered another statement performance in the series finale at Augusta, tossing a complete-game victory to secure the series for the Hurricanes. Over seven innings, Nutt allowed just one unearned run, struck out six, and walked only one, keeping the Jaguars off balance from the first pitch to the final out.

He also induced three double plays, efficiently working through key moments to preserve the win and continue his dominant run through conference play.

Against Peach Belt opponents this spring, Nutt is holding hitters to a .167 batting average with a 1.29 earned run average over 21 innings, both marks ranking second in the conference. He is also tied for the league lead with three PBC victories.
