Record-Setting Night vs. Two-Time Defending Champs Nets Koehler PBC Weekly Honor

AMERICUS, Ga. — Georgia Southwestern State University senior Evan Koehler has been named the Peach Belt Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season, the league office announced Monday, following a historic outing against the nation's top-ranked team.

Koehler delivered one of the most impressive performances in recent program history Friday night, tossing a complete-game victory against the two-time defending national champion and No. 1-ranked University of Tampa. The senior from Orange City, Fla., held the Spartans—who entered the weekend averaging 10.6 runs per game—to just one run over nine innings, striking out a school-record 15 batters while issuing no walks.

Koehler scattered just four hits and consistently kept Tampa's potent lineup off balance throughout the night. He retired the side in order five times, including a dominant fourth inning where he struck out the side and a flawless ninth inning to close out the victory.

The win was particularly notable given Tampa's sustained success entering the series. The Spartans arrived in Americus with an astonishing 122-19 record since the start of the 2024 season, making Koehler's performance even more remarkable.

Through the first half of the season, Koehler has established himself as one of the premier pitchers in Division II. He currently leads the nation in strikeouts (63) while pacing the Peach Belt Conference in opposing batting average (.181), innings pitched (43.2) and wins (5). He also ranks second in the conference in earned run average (1.85) and fewest runs allowed (11).
