AMERICUS, Ga. – Georgia Southwestern senior Evan Koehler has been named the Peach Belt Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Monday, following a commanding performance on the road at No. 5 North Greenville.
Koehler was in complete control Friday night, holding the Trailblazers—who have averaged 14.17 runs per contest in their other six games this season—to just one run over eight innings. The right-hander scattered six hits, struck out 11, and issued only one walk, turning in second-consecutive strong start this season.
A native of Orange City, Fla., Koehler retired the side in order three times, including a dominant fourth inning in which he struck out all three batters he faced. His poise and efficiency on the mound helped Georgia Southwestern neutralize one of the most explosive offenses in NCAA Division II.
Through the early portion of the season, Koehler currently owns the lowest earned run average in the Peach Belt Conference (0.60) while leading the league in innings pitched (15) and strikeouts (21). He also ranks second in the conference in opposing batting average (.157), further underscoring his effectiveness against elite competition.
GSW returns to action this week as Koehler and the Hurricanes look to build on the momentum generated by his standout performance. The Hurricanes host Embry-Riddle on Tuesday at 5 p.m. before welcoming USC Beaufort to town for a PBC weekend series starting Friday at 6 p.m.
