WARREN, Ohio — The eighth-ranked Georgia Southwestern men's golf team posted a 15-over 303 and finished 12th of 20 teams in the final round of the NCAA Division II National Championships Wednesday at the par-72 7,287-yard Avalon Lakes Golf Course. GSW finished the championship 12th out of 20 teams. The Hurricanes had two players in the Top 20 of the 108-player field.
Chase McLain finished day three 3-over par 75 and he finished the tournament 1-under par tied for 11th. McLain eagled a hole on the front nine and a hole on the back nine he shot bogeys on the day that subtracted three strokes off of his score.
Erik Fogel also shot a 3-over par 75 tying for 18th. Fogel got off to a slow start he hit two bogeys on his first three holes recovered and birdied on his sixth hole and ended the front nine 1-over. He hit three bogeys and birdied on the back nine he finished the championship 1-over tied for 18th.
Payne Sells struggled on his first two holes and started the day 4-over he settled down and birdied two holes but double-boogied the final hole of the front nine. Sells performed much better on the back nine he birdied three holes and ended the back nine 1-under giving him a 3-over finish for the day and finished the championship tied sitting at 46th.
Jack Tharrington had a rough go in the front nine he shot a 4-over par. Tharrington had a much better back nine finishing 2-over he ended the day 6-over par 78 he birdied his fourteenth hole.
Trey Odom finished the day 14-over and birdied two holes ending the championship 44-over at 106th.
GSW had a great year. They won two events this season, were Peach Belt Conference Champions and finished the season ranked in the Top 10.
