ELKTON, Fla. — The 19th-ranked Georgia Southwestern men's golf team posted a three-round score of 33-over 897 on Tuesday at the Spring Kickoff Intercollegiate hosted by Lincoln Memorial University to finish the tournament in third place out of 22 teams. The 54-hole event was played at St. John's Gollf Club (Par 72, 7,136 Yards) and featured eight teams ranked in the top 25 of NCAA Division II according to the latest Golfstat computer rankings.
Payne Sells led the Hurricanes with an 8-over 224 for the event. Sells best round was the second 18, where he knocked down five birdies over holes 11-16 on his way to a 73. Sells finished tied for 12th place out of 112 golfers.
Chase McLain posted an even par on the final 18 holes to finished second on the team with a 9-over 225, tied for 17th place overall. Nicolas Escobar was third for the Hurricanes, a stroke back of McLain, with a 10-over 226. Jack Tharrington posted a 73 in Round 2, his best 18 of the tournament, and finished 12-over, in a tie for 34th place. Simon Estrada tied for 38th at 13-over.
No. 11 North Georgia finished the tournament atop the team standings by holding off No. 3 Lincoln Memorial by four strokes to take home the team title. Evan Thompson from North Georgia led the individual standings, finsihing the tournament at 7-under to win by four strokes.
