MILTON, Ga. — The 11th-ranked Georgia Southwestern men's golf team posted a three-round score of 48-over 912 on Tuesday at the Southern Tide Intercollegiate hosted by Limestone University to finish the tournament in 16th place out of 20 teams. The 54-hole event is being played at the Atlanta National Golf Club (Par 72, 6,966 Yards) and features 14 teams ranked in the top 25 of NCAA Division II according to the latest Golfstat computer rankings, including nine of the top 10 teams in the country.
Chase McLain had the Hurricanes low score of the day with a nine-over 81, having three birdies in the final round. McLain finished 36th out of 100 golfers.
Simon Estrada finished second on the team with a 7-over 79, tied for 41st place overall. Payne Sells was third for the Hurricanes with a six-over 78 final round, while Payne Sells made the biggest jump of the day when he jumped 10 spots with his 78 in Round 3 to finish tied for 52nd. Jack Tharrington posted a final round score of 80.
No. 2 Barry finished the tournament atop the team standings barely beating Limestone University by one stroke to take home the team title, fellow Peach Belt member, third-ranked University of South Carolina Aiken, finished the tournament fourth overall. Jonathan Nielsen from Carson-Newman led the individual standings, finsihing the tournament with a two-stroke cushion and taking home the individual title.
