The road ahead

AMERICUS, Ga. – The Lady 'Canes Cross Country team is back in action this weekend as they head to Oxford, Alabama. They will compete in the sixth annualJacksonville State University Foothills Invitational Cross Country Meet on Saturday at the Oxford Lake & Recreation Center. The race will be a 5K event for ladies.

Head Coach Stephen Cox says, "This is two weekends in a row that we will have competed. I think this will be the ultimate test, thus far, to determine how well we have prepared on what lies in front of us toward the end of the month (PBC Championships)."

The Blue & Gold competed last weekend at the Darton Invitational and won second place for the second straight year. Sophomore runner, Lisa Espino, had the best placement finish (3rd) of any runner in the program's history since the transition to NCAA Division II status. The previous program best was formally held by current sophomore standout, Kelsey Baker (Fourth in 2010 Darton Invitational).

When asked of expectations for this weekend, Coach Cox says, "I'd like to see better preparation from the girls. There will be some good teams there from our league as well as DI schools. We want to use these times to gauge where we are at up to this point."
