The journey begins

AMERICUS, Ga. - The Lady 'Canes Cross Country team will be in action to kick off their first meet of the year as they travel to Milledgeville, Georgia and compete in the Bobcat Invitational, Friday at 6:00pm. The meet will be held in Milledgeville at 120 West Campus Dr. The Bobcat Invitational will be a four team event with the ther competing teams being Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), Young Harris, and the  host team Georgia College & State University.

"It is a pretty cool honor that we received the first preseason first place vote of any sports team in school history, as well as, being invited to this extremely challenging meet. The other teams competing in this meet are very good. It will be a good test for girls out of the gate," Head Coach Stephen Cox noted. "It is a two mile run. Our girls have been working hard this last week in preparation of the first meet of the season. I do not expect us to win the meet, but I do expect us to run hard and compete. We're making strides and all we can do is get better on a yearly basis... I feel we have done that and will continue to do so."

Freshman, Micah Bucher, has strep throat. She is a much needed piece to the team, and her status for the meet is day to day.

The Lady 'Canes also host their second annual GSW Remembrance Run Saturday, September 10, 2011. Teams from all over the state are competing. Unattached runners are welcome. For more information about the 2nd Annual GSW Remembrance Run contact the GSW Cross Country office at (229) 931-2221.
