Lady 'Canes receive 1st place vote in PBC preseason poll

AMERICUS - The Georgia Southwestern women's cross country team will enter the 2011 season with its highest ranking in the Peach Belt Conference Coaches' Preseason Poll in school history. The PBC poll, released today, has the Lady Hurricanes ranked eighth out of 10 teams.

GSW received one first-place vote and one third-place vote in en route to earning 29 points, six points behind seventh place Flagler. Augusta State holds the top spot in the 2011 poll, followed by Columbus State and Clayton State.

The Lady Hurricanes return four of their top five runners from 2010, including sophomore Kelsey Baker, who posted GSW's fastest time at the conference championships last fall.

GSW opens the 2011 season on Sept. 2 at the Georgia College Invitational in Milledgeville.

The full coaches' poll is below.  Teams were given nine points for a first-place vote, eight for a second and so on.  Coaches were not permitted to rank their own teams.
