GSW earns top-10 finish at JSU Foothills Invite

The Lady Hurricanes cross country team finished in ninth place on Saturday at the 12-team Foothills Invitational, hosted by Jacksonville State University, in Oxford, Ala. GSW finished with 215 points, four points away from jumping two slots to seventh.  

Every Southwestern runner posted a season-best 5K time (through three events).

Casi McDonald led the way, finishing 41st out of 98 participants with a time of 21:47.11.

Kelsey Baker (22:18.29) and Mollie McGowan (22:27.83) finished back-to-back, 48th and 49th, respectively. Katy York (60th, 23:31.24) crossed seconds ahead of Leady Cuellar (63rd, 23:43.20), while Becky Atkins was close behind in 69th (24:51.59).

With 38 points, host Jacksonville State finished ahead of Emory (45) and West Alabama (88) for the team title. Fellow Peach Belt Conference member Montevallo finished fourth (107).

Ericka Stam from Jacksonville State crossed the finish line first with a time of 18:20.44, followed by teammate Kevyn Tracy at 18:59.47. 

GSW runs in the Cougar Invitational, hosted by Columbus State, on October 23 at 10 a.m.
