A trio of Lady 'Canes named All-Academic
The Georgia Southwestern women's soccer team placed three players on the Peach Belt Conference All-Academic team, as announced recently by the league office.
Becky Atkins, a second team selection, started 12 matches for the Lady Hurricanes in 2009. The sophomore defender from Warner Robins logged 904 minutes of playing time and took one shot. She is a Nursing major with a 3.70 grade point average.
Sophomore Aubrey Tinklepaugh and senior Elizabeth Keller received fourth team honors.
Tinklepaugh, from Lawrenceville, played in 12 games as a defender for the Lady 'Canes this season. An Early Childhood Education major, she has a 3.44 GPA.
Keller started all 16 matches in the midfield for GSW. The Snellville native led the team with 29 shots on the season. She finished second on the team in assists (2) and third in goals (1) and minutes played (1321). A History major with a teaching certificate, Keller has a 3.37 GPA.
The All-Academic team is part of a season-long program recognizing the outstanding accomplishments of PBC student-athletes in the classroom as well as on the field.
To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team's events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution. The Peach Belt Conference Sports Information Directors oversee and select the teams.
