AMERICUS - Georgia Southwestern State University head women's basketball coach Kelly Britsky has released the program's 2011-12 schedule that features 13 games at home, 10 on the road and three contests at neutral sites.
GSW is coming off of a 12-14 campaign and the Lady Hurricanes face a challenging schedule this winter as their opponents combined to finish 112 games over .500 (418-306) last season.
Southwestern opens the season on Nov. 12 when Auburn Montgomery visits the Storm Dome.
The Lady Hurricanes hit the road for the first time on Nov. 15 with a trip to Valdosta State before sliding west to Pensacola, Fla. for games against West Alabama and West Florida in the West Florida Tournament on Nov. 18-19. GSW returns home to meet Tennessee Temple on the 22nd.
The Peach Belt Conference and Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference have come together for a four-team annual invitational beginning in 2011. Columbus State will host the alternating-site event this season and GSW will face Fort Valley State and Albany State over the weekend of Nov. 26-27.
The Lady Hurricanes return home for a game with Truett-McConnell on the 30th to wrap up November.
December is a light month for Southwestern as the only games come on the 3rd and 14th. Both dates are Peach Belt West Division road contests with Montevallo coming first, followed by a trip to the defending NCAA Division II National Champions Clayton State.
Southwestern welcomes first-year program Coastal Georgia to Americus to kick start 2012 on Jan. 4. Peach Belt play ensues the rest of the season. After a game at Lander on the 7th, GSW hosts Armstrong Atlantic (Jan. 14) and Flagler (Jan. 16).
A pair of road games follow on the 21st (Augusta State) and 23rd (USC Aiken).
The Lady 'Canes intend to enjoy some home cooking with seven of their final 10 games in the Storm Dome between Jan. 28 and Feb. 25, including a pair of three-game homestands.
The Peach Belt Conference Tournament begins on Thursday, Mar. 1 with the top four teams in each division qualifiying for the postseason event. Columbus State will host this year's tourney with the winner earning the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA National Tournament.
- Six of the seven weekday games played over Jan. and Feb. will be at home
- GSW is 8-2 over the last three season in non-conference games played at home. The Lady Hurricanes host four contests this season.
