Lowndes County Standout Signs Early with GSW

AMERICUS - Georgia Southwestern State University head women's basketball coach Kelly Britsky proudly announces the signing of Lakeisha "Danyelle" Jones of Lowndes County High School during this year's early signing period.

Jones, a 5-foot-4 point guard, will be looked to play a large role as a freshman.

"We will look to Danyelle early next year to play a large role at the point guard position," said Britsky. "We feel that she has the talent to step up right away."

Jones averaged 15 points, five assists and three steals during her junior year at Lowndes. She was named to the All-Region 1-AAAAA First Team, a member of the McDonald's All-Tournament Team and selected as the team MVP.

"Danyelle is a solid shooter both inside and outside the arc," added Britsky.

Lowndes posted a 21-8 record last year but fell in the region tournament semifinals to eventual tournament champion Tift County. It was the sixth straight season the Vikettes claimed 20-plus wins in a season.

Jones and her Lowndes (1-0) teammates defeated Thomas County Central, 64-24, in its 2011-12 season opener on Nov. 15.
