Georgia State pulls away from GSW in final tune-up

ATLANTA -- A strong second half propelled Georgia State to 68-49 victory over GSW in a Tuesday evening exhibition game at the Georgia State Sports Arena.

Brittany Reynolds and Terra Branch scored 10 points apiece to lead the Lady Hurricanes.

GSW held the lead for most of the opening nine minutes of action. Momentum would shift to the home side as Southwestern led for the last time in the game (20-18) with 7:32 left in the first half. A 13-5 run put the Division I Panthers up 31-25 at the halfime break.

Georgia State picked up where they left off, going on a 12-1 run to start the second half, opening the lead to 17 points.

GSW closed the gap to 12 points (47-35) with 13:33 remaining, but that's as close as the Lady Hurricanes would get the rest of the way.

Southwestern was held to 19-of-65 shooting (29.2%), including 4-of-21 shooting (19.0%) from beyond the arc. Meanwhile, Georgia State hit on 26-of-65 from the field (40.0%) and held a 57-34 rebounding advantage.

Danyiell McKeller and Shay Rawls each had double-double games for Georgia State with McKeller netting 16 points and grabbing 12 rebounds to go with Rawls' team-high 17 rebounds and 10 points.

The Lady 'Canes open the regular season at home on Monday against Albany State. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
