Martin First Team All-Conference, Tierce Second Team

AMERICUS, Ga.- Georgia Southwestern softball players Joshlyn Martin and Hayley Tierce both received Peach Belt Conference awards on Thursday night at a banquet in Milledgeville, Ga., site of the PBC softball tournament.

Martin was named to the Peach Belt Conference First Team All-Conference team for the second straight year. The sophomore from Fountain Inn, S.C. played in 54 games this season, recorded a .418 batting average with 66 hits, 34 runs, 13 doubles, two triples, six home runs and 45 RBIs. In the field Martin had 244 total chances with 240 putouts, four assists to record a 1.000 fielding percentage.

Martin is the first Lady Hurricane to be named First Team All-Conference two times and remains the second GSW player to make First Team All-Conference, Nichole Griffin was the first in 2011.

She is currently ranked 4th in the NCAA DII for toughest batter to strike out, is 20th in hits, 36th for total bases and 41st in RBIs. In the PBC she is ranked third in batting average, sixth in hits and seventh in RBIs.

Tierce was named Second Team All-Conference for the second year in a row as well. She is the third Lady Hurricane to be named Second Team twice joining Gabby Buck (2009 and 2010) and Rachel McElroy (2013 and 2015). Mason Moreland was named Second Team All-Conference in 2012, Hayley Knight in 2013 and Jordan Miller in 2014.

The sophomore from Warner Robins, Ga. played in 53 games this season, recorded a .353 batting average with 55 hits, 51 runs, 13 doubles, one triple, 12 home runs and 51 RBIs. In the field Tierce had 203 total chances with 72 putouts, 122 assists to record a .956 fielding percentage. She also pitched in four games to record a 2-1 record and 3.41 ERA with nine strikeouts in 12.1 innings of work.

Tierce leads the PBC in RBIs and is fourth in home runs. Currently she is ranked 12th in the NCAA DII for RBIs, is 16th in home runs and 24th in total bases.
