Ward Announces 2012 Recruiting Class

AMERICUS – Georgia Southwestern head softball coach Eddie Ward has announced his 2012 recruiting class. The Lady Hurricanes will add 10 new faces for the 2013 season. The list of signees includes three freshmen and seven players with previous collegiate softball experience.

The newcomers will look to help the team improve its 22-win season in 2012, which tied for the program's most wins in a season since Southwestern became a NCAA Division II program in 2007.

Coach Ward and the Lady Hurricanes open the 2013 campaign on Feb. 2 at the Bobcat Bash in Milledgeville.

Morgan Emerson (Freshman, Pitcher, Leesburg, Fla.)

Alexis Lindsey (Freshman, Pitcher, Americus, Ga.)

Erin Steele (Freshman, Outfielder, Covington, Ga.)

Shelley Sweatt (Sophomore, Outfielder, Lawrenceville, Ga.)

Sweatt appeared in 28 games as a freshman for Anderson (S.C.) University last season. The Trojans finished with a 38-13 record.

Ashley Clifton (Junior, First Baseman, Statesboro, Ga.)

Clifton hit .324 with five home runs and 20 RBIs for East Georgia College in 2012.

Elliott Martin (Junior, Second Base/Shortstop), Americus, Ga.)

Martin hit .311 with two home runs and 22 RBIs for Middle Georgia College in 2012.

Jordan Miller (Junior, Third Baseman, Jackson, Ga.)

Miller led Middle Georgia College last season with seven home runs and 38 RBIs.

Nellie Moore (Junior, Catcher, Vero Beach, Fla.)

Moore swiped 17 stolen bases and belted two home runs last spring for Indian River State College in Fort Pierce, Fla.

Allison Pastor (Junior, Pitcher, Vero Beach, Fla.)

Pastor posted a 4-1 record and a 1.55 ERA for Indian River State College in 2012. At the plate, she hit five home runs and drove in 21 runs while garnering a .399 on-base percentage.

Logan Smith (Senior, Utility Player, Gordon, Ga.)

Smith appeared in 13 games last spring for fellow Peach Belt Conference member Georgia College.
